Full Construction Plans for a Horse's Hay Feeder Box

Full Construction Plans on a USB stick.

My highly regarded horse hay feeder boxes are now available in full home construction format.

These used to be manufactured by me in my own workshop, constructed from pressure treated timber, protected from rot and insect attack, and thoughtfully designed to keep your horse safe and their hay elevated for full air circulation.
Due largely to persistent courier difficulties, I decided to give customers the option of constructing these boxes themselves, to the same high specifications, thus making big savings, even over lower grade products.

Following my clear and easy to follow construction plans, even those with no prior woodworking experience will have no trouble in producing a hay box to the highest standards.

Highly Affordable

By making your hay feeder box from timber and components you source locally yourself, you will skip the middle man and keep cost to a minimum. Furthermore, you won’t have to pay for delivery costs.

Pressure Treated Timber

By purchasing pressure-treated timber, which is abundantly available, you will construct a hay box resistant to weathering, bugs, mould, and rot. It also has improved dimensional stability, which means it’s less likely to warp or split. Ideally the cut ends should also be treated for similar protection.

Elevated Base

As well as having slatted sides and base, the design features bottom buffer boards. These are fitted to the underside of the box to keep your hay clear of even the softest of ground and provide constant air circulation.

Anti-Corrosion Screws

Corrosion resistant screws are specified in the plans. Coated with a corrosion resistant material to withstand up to 500 hours in a salt spray cabinet without rusting, such screws penetrate the timber more easily, cleanly countersink, and securely clamp components together.
